ABOUT ME

Meet John Whalen: Your Candidate for Congress

The first of four siblings born to John and Theresa Whalen of Wilmington, Delaware, I grew up in the suburbs of Wilmington where I attended various Catholic and public schools, graduating from Thomas McKean H.S. in 1972. I enrolled at the University of Delaware the same year, where I studied political science and history. In 1980 I went back to school, enrolling at Delaware Technical & Community College where I studied criminal justice.

Having obtained my working papers at the age of 15, I went to work at J.C. Penney Co. at Prices Corner. Having left the Penney Co. in 1974, I took a job with a men's clothing chain as a store manager, and later as district manager for the state of Delaware. In 1976, having stores from New York to Florida, the company closed it's doors due to a depressed economy. Still going to the university and needing to work, I took a job at a men's clothing store across town and a part-time job teaching in a GED program at Wilmington H.S. I would later take employment with a new car dealership where I remained until the fall of 1977.

On October 10, 1977, I was appointed to the Delaware Department of Public Safety, Division of State Police, where I served for twenty years, retiring in October 1997. During my career I served in patrol, both as a road trooper and shift supervisor. I served in the K-9-unit, burglary unit, robbery squad, major crimes, M.C.S.A.P., and the F.B.I. joint violent crimes fugitive task force. Shortly after retiring, I formed a residential construction company, building houses and additions throughout Sussex County for more than twenty-two years. I am currently retired.

I am married to Valerie Leigh, a nurse, currently employed at Peninsula Tidal Health Hospital for more than forty years. We have three adult sons, John, Matthew, and Mark, and six grandchildren. My wife and I currently reside in Millsboro, Delaware.

What I Will Fight For

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Illegal immigration through our southern border is at a historic high. We cannot afford to let more than 8 million illegals into our country in less than four years without doing harm to our economy and national security.

Bidens failure to enforce U.S. Immigration laws has had ramifications that extends far beyond our borders. His negligence has "fundamentally" changed hundreds of American communities into border towns, leaving them vulnerable to those who take advantage of his unlawful policies.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle often opine "our immigration system is broken". Therein lies the problem, is our system "broken", or is it political speak for government's failure to enforce our immigration laws.

Biden's "catch and release" policy is in direct violation of 8 USC 1225 which requires the detention of all illegal aliens.

Congress should insist that the Executive Branch enforce our laws. It's a matter of national security.

THE ECONOMY

"The budget should be balanced, the treasury refilled, public debt reduced, the arrogance of officialdom tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt." Cicero

Biden tells us that his economic policies are working, while average Americans watch their family budgets shrink as the federal budget grows. His war on fossil fuels has un-necessarily burdened families with higher electric bills, higher fuel cost for those traveling back and forth to work, and higher grocery cost, while lining he pockets of foreign entities that produce the solar panels and windmills for his climate agenda.

The federal debt is now $34.8 trillion. The cost to service the debt for FY 2024 is projected to be $870 billion, surpassing our defense budget of $822 billion. If deficit spending continues at its current pace, our Republic as we know it today, will cease to exist.

Its time for Congress to start asking the tough questions: Why are Americans being asked to borrow money to support foreign wars. Why are we supporting institutions of higher learning that are sitting on millions of dollars in endowments. Why do we continue to spend billions of dollars funding government agencies that have failed to perform the duties for which they were formed. Why did Congress remove the self-imposed "debt ceiling". Why are Americans being asked to spend billions to support illegal aliens.

Why am i running for congress

To begin, I have never considered myself to be much of a politician. Politicians tend to talk more about a problem, than actually solving one. I have considered running for public office in the past, but this time was different.

First, I met with my family and friends. We all agreed it was a good time. Then I looked at each candidate, the Republican Party's endorsed candidate, Donyala Hall, and the Democratic Party's presumptive candidate, Sara McBride, and found that their respective platforms were the same. Neither candidate addressed the issues that every American is facing today, "Bidenomics" and the invasion of our southern border. My platform speaks directly to these issues.

Knowing what I would be running against the GOP's endorsed candidate in a primary, and eventually the Democratic Party's presumptive candidate, I decided to run for the U.S. House of Representatives

Where do i stand on the abortion issue
You should know that I am "Pro Life", and that I consider the abortion issue to be one of morality, and not politics. I do believe that certain considerations should be given to victims of incest and rape. When a mother's life is in question, the decision to abort the fetus should be based on sound medical advice, and with the consent of the mother.

Do i support the second amendment
I believe, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". Politicians will blow a lot of hot air while telling you that stiffer gun laws prevent gun violence. Most of the same politicians are the same ones who have supported measures that impedes an officer's duty to enforce laws that would keep Americans safe.

Do i support the wars in Ukraine and Israel

Although I hope Ukraine is successful in defending its country against the Russian invasion, I view the war as a European issue. The European Union, not just the NATO countries, should play a bigger role in defending their countries against Russian aggression. Americans have already spent too much blood and treasure fighting European wars. The Great War and what latter became known as World War II. I would find it hard to ask Americans to "borrow" money to fight another war in Europe. We already have many bases throughout the Europe in support of the NATO alliance. I think America is doing enough in an effort to ensure that Europe is secure.

Israel is fighting a war against terrorist, against an ideology, and some say, even a "Holy War". They are fighting the same terrorist who refer to America as the "Big Satan". The same terrorist who openly threaten America.

It concerns me that we recently deployed 50,000 American troops to the region. I do not support putting boots on the ground. The question that needs to be asked, under whose authority were the troops deployed. Biden has proved to the America people that he is not capable of making such decision. I am in favor of sending Israel material support in their efforts to defeat those who invaded their country.
